CASE STUDIES
THE MINING STORY
The Iron Mining Association is the trade association for the iron ore mines located in Northeast Minnesota as well as hundreds of vendors. With a renewed emphasis on educating and raising awareness about the industry, they reached out to Story North for help telling their story. Our collaboration birthed a documentary-style web series spotlighting diverse organizations and individuals within the mining sphere. Alongside crafting the series concept, we developed a distinctive visual identity, complete with an animated introduction and graphics package. Hosted by the IMA's executive director, a former journalist, "The Mining Story" serves as a critical tool to further promote the industry.

HOPE X LAUNCH
In 2023, the Miller-Dwan Foundation embarked on a crucial mission to address the mental health crisis in northeastern Minnesota. Their initiative, Hope X, involves rallying a proactive mental health workforce, among other significant endeavors. Teaming up with Story North, they unveiled Hope X through a public service announcement starring Zak Williams, a passionate mental health advocate and the son of the late actor Robin Williams. We handled the scripting, filming, and editing of a :30 + :15 commercial. Moreover, we proposed a lasting collaboration with the foundation to create continuous short and long-form content promoting Hope X.
"Working with Story North Productions has been a fantastic experience! From the excellent communication before, during and after a video shoot, to the ease and comfort they provide to those being interviewed, to the true passion for their craft, Story North Productions is the best around. They are an asset to our community!” - Kerry Johnson, Miller-Dwan Foundation

YOUTH SPORTS
The growing city of Hermantown, Minnesota, approached Story North with an engaging idea for a set of promotional videos: to showcase Hermantown as a place where youth sports transcend age. Working closely with the city, we crafted a series comprising of six 30-second videos, each spotlighting diverse athletes across different ages and sports disciplines—ranging from hockey players to snowmobilers and bowlers. We then blended these individual stories into a captivating "hero" video, combining all six narratives into a dynamic showcase.
"From the initial meeting to the final, technical delivery of our productions (and even a few extra requests we had after the fact) were always enthusiastic, effective, and enjoyable. And as important as all of this execution was, Story North felt like a partner in our story, not just an external group performing a process.” - Joe Wicklund, City of Hermantown

STEM CAREERS
STARBASE Duluth is launching the next generation of leaders in science, technology, engineering and math fields. As part of its curriculum aimed at 5th graders across Northeastern Minnesota and Northwestern Wisconsin, the camp introduces students to various STEM-related careers. STARBASE tapped Story North to produce an ongoing series of short, documentary-style videos profiling people working in this fields. We worked with STARBASE to develop the overall look and feel of the series, along with filming and editing each video.
